Have you seen the fantastic surfboard that holds a place of honor on top of our giant fishtank?
This surfboard was donated by Sandbar friend Peter and his girlfriend, Alex. It was their parting gift to us, as they both recently graduated from KU and moved back to Los Angeles.
Peter brought the surfboard to Lawrence from California, and Alex painted the Jayhawk on it.
Peter worked at Louise's West while he was in school at KU, and he was along for Joe's infamous Vegas bachelor trip last summer.
Thanks, Peter and Alex!

So, the other day I was checking out our Google Analytics info, which I don't do nearly as frequently as I should, mostly because I haven't taken the time to really understand why it's so important.
I found a reason: you never know who might be talking about you on the internets.
I noticed a large number (okay, 30 or so) of visits coming from Forbes. Yes, that Forbes- the site with "information for the world's business leaders." Why in the world would Forbes be directing people to a tiny little bar in Kansas' website?
I followed the link and found a blog about webcams– and more specifically, why webcams are a voyeur's delight.
The article was really a warning to people who have webcams that really aren't intended to be public- like a security camera for a jewelry store- and the author wrote about how easy it is for someone to find public webcams and potentially rob your store.
At the end of the blog, the author concedes that some places actually want people to watch their webcams- and mentions a little bar in Lawrence, Kansas, called the Sandbar. And, of course, includes a link to our webcam.
Pretty cool that we ended up mentioned in an article on Forbes!

We started our Sandbar "Wall of Fame" project a couple years ago- it's a small section of the wall by the popcorn machine, covered in corkboard and photos of people wearing Sandbar shirts all over the world.
People are really starting to get into this project and we're getting more and more pictures, which is awesome! The problem is, we were running out of space on the wall, and some of the pictures that were on there were fun pictures, but weren't of Sandbar shirts.
The other day I spent some time taking all the pictures down and sorting through them. Most of them went back up on the wall, and the others will find a new home somewhere else. There's not a lot of empty space, but there's still room for you!
If you've got a picture of you wearing your Sandbar shirt somewhere other than Lawrence, we want to see it. You can email it to us at sandbar@thesandbar.com, post it on our Facebook page, tweet it to us or just print it out and stick it on the wall. Can't wait to see it!

The Sandbar is first and foremost a Jimmy Buffett-loving, beach music kind of bar, but we have all kinds of tunes in our jukebox. Some personal favorites of Dave's include music by bands out of Texas and Oklahoma that are commonly referred to as "red dirt" or "Texas country."
Pat Green is one of those artists. He played down the street at The Granada last weekend, the third or fourth year in a row that he's played there that same weekend.
Our buddy Justin from the Kansas City Limits radio show on 106.5 The Wolf hooked us up with this:
If you like this type of music, be sure to check out the Kansas City Limits Facebook page or follow them on Twitter. Often when bands play in Lawrence, Justin will stop by the Sandbar first with a few tickets to give away, and sometimes the bands will even stop by before or after the show.
Thanks, Justin!

That might be the words to a song we all know and love, but it's also a claim we can make. Sort of.
Recently Dave was doing some routine maintenance around the bar (I don't really know what that means) and he pulled some stuff off the ceiling. One of the things he found, which we've never seen before, was this:
Way back in 1993, we got a check for a million dollars from Uncle Andy's Hambonery. Anyone remember this place? (It was before my time.)

Next time you're in the bar, you might notice yet another new addition:
A new surfboard menu hangs behind the bar above the pint glasses.
Dave bought some plexiglass and created a cool new sign that lights up with a blacklight. It features a list of our tropical drinks along with the shots available on the shot wheel.
Be sure to let Dave know what you think of his handiwork!
