We definitely want to see your pictures and videos, so be sure to tweet, Facebook, upload, or email them to us! And, we'll also be looking for a few good bloggers to write a recap of their party experience for us. So keep track of any funny stories from the party, because we'll be asking for them!

Do you have an iPhone or iPod Touch? Want to keep up with local businesses in Lawrence? Check out the Lawrence KS app, a guide to Lawrence restaurants, bars and shopping!
The app was created by our friend Jacinta at LangfordMedia, a web/social media/mobile marketing company in Lawrence.
The application is great for folks who live in Lawrence and especially if you're just here to visit. View business hours, menus, drink specials and more- including live Twitter feeds if the business has an account. You can browse businesses by category, or you can choose "near me" to find places close to you.
The app costs 99 cents, which is a steal. A really cool feature of this app is that a portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Lawrence Public Schools.
If you own a business, you can request the business to be included as a "featured listing." These are the first places a user sees when launching the app. If your business isn't currently listed in the app, contact LangfordMedia.
Be sure to check out the website for more details!
(This is a completely independent review of the Lawrence KS app. It was not paid for or requested by LangfordMedia. In fact, I paid for the app myself. I just think it's cool and wanted to share the info.)

We're very excited to announce a brand new summer contest!
As you know, it's been a long time since we've had a new hurricane video. The current video was filmed over Labor Day weekend of 2007, and it was unveiled on New Year's Eve that year. It's almost three years old!
This time, for our fifth installment of the video, we want to involve YOU. We want you, the fans, to create your own video clip about "What Not To Do During a Hurricane." You've seen those segments on our previous videos- they're always funny and we think you can create some great ones.
It doesn't have to be a fancy professional recording. Use your Flip, your phone, or your camera. Just keep it to less than ten seconds, please!
Here are the rules:
- Create your video featuring "What Not To Do During a Hurricane" in less than ten seconds
- Upload it to YouTube and tag it with "sbhurricane"
- Send us a link: tweet it to us, post it on our Facebook page, or email it to us
Submissions are accepted through August 7. Be sure to follow all of the rules above to be considered!
Starting August 7, the public will vote on their favorite video clips. We'll select some finalists based on the votes. We'll announce the finalists at our block party on August 14, and you'll have one night to vote for your favorite clip.
The winning video clip will be featured in our new hurricane video! The winner will also receive a prize package featuring free sandwiches for a year from our sponsor, the Sandbar Sub Shop, which opens this month in Lawrence.
Be creative! We can't wait to see what you come up with.

Obviously, the Sandbar likes social media. We blog, Facebook, tweet and share pictures on Flickr and videos on YouTube. We've hosted tweetups and even achieved the coveted Foursquare Swarm Badge. And we have some special offers for customers who "check in" using location-based social media networks Whrrl and Foursquare.
We invite you to celebrate Social Media Day with us next Wednesday, June 30. Mashable, the world's most popular blog devoted to social media, has decreed June 30 to be Social Media Day. They're organizing meetups in cities where they have staff, and they've encouraged the rest of the world to organize their own meetups that day too.
So, whether you keep up with family on Facebook, tweet with strangers, network on LinkedIn, dabble in another form of social media- maybe you even still have a MySpace account like us!- or you just want to enjoy a refreshing cocktail, join us next Wednesday night.
- When: Wednesday, June 30
- Time: 6 p.m.- 2 a.m.
- Where: 17 East 8th Street, Lawrence, KS
We'll have 2-for-1 Beachtini's, our popular Skittle infused vodka drinks, along with some snacks. Stop by for a drink, bring some friends and meet new people.
RSVP on the Facebook event or on the Mashable meetup.

Last month, we announced our jukebox specials on Whrrl, a location based social networking site. We don't know if anyone's actually redeemed jukebox credits on Whrrl, because they don't have any type of analytics available. And, unfortunately, not very many people use the service.
However, we've got some more exciting news!
Our request to add a special on Foursquare was finally approved! Foursquare is one of the largest location based social networking sites, and it's definitely the one that has the most activity in Lawrence. For those of you who aren't familiar with Foursquare, it basically allows you to "check in" when you go somewhere. Your friends- or the world- can see where you are, you can earn virtual badges, and sometimes you can even get free stuff.
And now you can get free stuff at the Sandbar. No, not alcohol, because that's illegal. But the next best thing to drinks at the Sandbar is music at the Sandbar, and now you can get some for free.
Every third time you check in at The Sandbar between 5-9 p.m., you earn five free jukebox credits. When the special offer pops up after you check in, just show your phone to the bartender and they'll add the credits to the jukebox for you.
The special is currently only valid at the Sandbar in Lawrence.
If you're on Foursquare already, you can find our page here. Stop in sometime and make sure to check in!
by Debbi | May 22, 2010 | Graduation, People, Social Media
I find all sorts of interesting things on Twitter these days, which has become my go-to source for news and events happening both locally and nationally. After KU's commencement weekend, I looked at tweets that were tagged with the #kugrad hashtag, and I found a lovely poem.
A KU alumna named Erica, who now lives in Colorado, was back in town for her brother's graduation. She was inspired to write this poem about all the things she loves about KU. And, guess what? The Sandbar got a mention! And she said she also has a bunch of sharks in her apartment now.
Here's a link to her blog, where the poem appeared.
An Alumnus Returns
The yellow, blue and pink
Of brilliant Lawrence skies
Fraser Hall marks the skyline
What a sight for homesick eyes
Chiming Campanile bells
In rhythm with my heartbeat
Green trees, Mom and Pop shops
Line up and down Mass Street
Memories come washing back
Ghosts floating on the hill
And as I haunt my old halls
I've got that nostalgic thrill
The sand and waves at Clinton Lake
Brick road – Ohio Street
Fratters with Coors at The Wheel
Sperry's on all their feet
Schooners at Louise's
Playing in the Chi-O fountain
Walking up steep 14th street
Feeling like it's a mountain
Graffitied desks in Wescoe Hall
Allen Fieldhouse student stampede
Wave the wheat for touchdowns
Tailgating BBQ/beer feed
Boulevard Wheat at Quinton's
Shark attack at the Sandbar
Cave's no replacement for Crossing
Take Saferide, not your car
Musky smell of a frat house
Themed parties with sorority
Friends who have touched my life
Rock chalk chanting with me
Crimson and blue is what I bleed
A Jayhawk, true and tried
Once you've got it, it only grows
Nothing like Kansas pride
Limestone buildings standing proud
Towering over the blue
My Alma Mater, traditions strong
Hail to old KU
Doesn't that bring tears to your eyes? It captures so many great things about Lawrence and KU- it's a perfect tribute!
