Sandbar Tee in Philadelphia

Sandbar friend Annie recently traveled to Philadelphia and sent us this picture of her Sandbar shirt! This is the first picture we've gotten from Philly.

Thanks, Annie! Hope your trip was lots of fun.

If you've got a picture of your Sandbar shirt somewhere cool, send it to us!

If I Had A Million Dollars…

That might be the words to a song we all know and love, but it's also a claim we can make. Sort of.

Recently Dave was doing some routine maintenance around the bar (I don't really know what that means) and he pulled some stuff off the ceiling. One of the things he found, which we've never seen before, was this:

Way back in 1993, we got a check for a million dollars from Uncle Andy's Hambonery. Anyone remember this place? (It was before my time.)

New Surfboard Drink Sign

Next time you're in the bar, you might notice yet another new addition:

A new surfboard menu hangs behind the bar above the pint glasses.

Dave bought some plexiglass and created a cool new sign that lights up with a blacklight. It features a list of our tropical drinks along with the shots available on the shot wheel.

Be sure to let Dave know what you think of his handiwork!

National Rubber Duck Day

Apparently there's a holiday for everything.

I discovered today through the magic of Twitter that today is National Rubber Duck Day. You know what  this means- you all need to come to the Sandbar tonight for Tropical Drink Night and 6a00d8341c17af53ef011570b460e7970benjoy some rubber ducks with your drinks. I'm pretty sure we still have rubber duck keychains available.

Bring your favorite rubber duck toys from the past and show them off! Leave a comment and let us know what your favorite rubber duck toy is- we've offered all kinds, from cowboy ducks to cheerleader ducks to nurse ducks.

This Wikipedia entry about rubber ducks contains everything you ever wanted to know about the little yellow toys. The Guinness World Record for largest rubber duck collection stood at 2,583 rubber ducks in 2007. We're not going to try to beat that one.

I couldn't find any information quickly about how or why National Rubber Duck Day began, but here's another fun little tidbit about rubber ducks making their way around the ocean.

Sandbar Song Writers Reunite

A long time ago, like almost eight years ago, the Sandbar Song was born.

We had originally rewritten the words to "Copa Cabana" to dance along with after the hurricane blew through the bar, but Peach decided we needed our very own song. You can read the story of the Sandbar Song here. That was a fun trip that we definitely need to repeat.

The song was co-written by Peach, Dusty Workman and Eddie Kilgallon. Recently, we discovered that Dusty and Eddie have reunited on a new project, "Evidence of Journey."

According to Radio Rich and Friends:

Join us this week for Eddie K, founding member of the band Ricochet and keyboardist touring  with Montgomery Gentry. He along with our friend Dusty Workman have put together a GREAT New Group, ” Evidence of Journey”. They’ll be playing a concert this weekend that you’ll hear about ONLY on Radio Rich and Friends.

I would tell you to tune into and listen to Radio Rich and friends for more information, but I couldn't find the radio station call letters anywhere on their website.

However, I received a Facebook invitation from Dusty to a concert on Sunday night. Looks like Evidence of Journey will be playing at 6 p.m. at the First Assembly of God near 27th and Topeka Boulevard.

I have no idea what kind of music Evidence of Journey plays, but I can assure you that Dusty and Eddie are both excellent musicians as well as super nice guys. We are eternally grateful for their help with the Sandbar Song! And by the way, the reggae voice singing our song belongs to Eddie.
