All I Want For Christmas…

Is more funny videos of Dave dancing around the bar dressed as Elvis Santa.

There was much dancing at Sunday's staff Christmas party. Fortunately a lot of it was caught on video. Unfortunately, some of the video was either too dark to be able to see or the subjects of the video really don't want their antics on the internet. Dave, however, doesn't care- so enjoy:

I particularly love the moment when Tyler dances his way into the video as if on cue.

Some of the other hilarious dance moments of the night:

  • Andrew, Tyler, Fyler and Dave singing and dancing behind the bar
  • Andrew and Dave doing their best Soulja Boy imitation on the bench
  • Fyler, Tyler and Andrew dancing to "Jump On It" behind the bar
  • Ken's rendition of "Old El Paso" that only comes out late, late at night

Of course, the ladies dance too. But somehow the boys dancing is funnier.

Annual Sandbar Staff Holiday Extravaganza

Last night brought one of our favorite nights of the year- the annual Sandbar staff holiday party. (We have lots of favorite days and nights of the year, if you haven't noticed.)

Every year on a Sunday night just before Christmas, the bar closes to the public for a few hours so our staff can celebrate the holidays, our friendships and another great year at the bar.

We eat, we drink and we open presents! The "white elephant" gift exchange has become a highlight of the party. Some gifts are serious (pretty candles, wine and lottery tickets) while others are total nonsense (ceramic gorillas, toilet seats and broken VCR's.) This year was no exception. Some of the gifts that made an appearance:

  • The drink "butler"- an outstretched hand that cups a glass and is battery-operated, so the butler brings the drink across the table to you. It even knows to stop at the edge of the table.
  • A giant ceramic Admiral Lord something-or-other mug.
  • A camo-patterned Snuggie.
  • A gold lame thong.
  • "Manifold Destiny! The One! The Only! Guide to Cooking on Your Car's Engine!" written by Chris Maynard, and unwrapped by none other than Chris Maynard, former Sandbar-tender.
  • A giant poster of Dave and Justin dressed in wedding finery, from bartender Heather's wedding to Ken last spring.

The costume contest followed the gift exchange. Not as many people dressed up as last year, when practically everyone was wearing some sort of Christmas character costume. This year, we recycled our costumes from SantaCon and filled the bar (sort of) with Santas.

Sexy Santa Michelle and Run D.M.C. Santa Todd split the first place prize, judged by Ted and Andy.

The rest of the night was filled with lots of drinking, dancing and pure entertainment. Especially from the revolving cast of boys behind the bar.

Fun with Fuzzy Navels

One of our regulars, Erin, shared a funny story with me recently.

She stopped by the bar early one evening to meet a friend, have a drink and vent about a particularly crappy day. She asked the bartender for a Fuzzy Navel. (I'm keeping the day of the week and the bartender anonymous, to protect the innocent.)

The bartender replied that he didn't know how to make a Fuzzy Navel.

(Stop right there. Show of hands- who knows how to make this drink? Have you even heard of it?  I think this might be the first alcoholic drink I ever tasted, and I'm pretty sure I knew how to make it when I was sixteen. Because my mom drank them. Anyway, moving on.)

The bartender whipped out the trusty drink book we keep behind the bar, and found another "fuzzy" drink. He told Erin what was in it, she thought it sounded good, and asked for a double.

He calculated the amount of alcohol that would be and said, "Um, wow that's a lot of alcohol. How about I sub some OJ in there?"

As I repeated this story to Dave, we both laughed pretty hard. He defended his bartender, though, and said not a lot of people ask for a Fuzzy Navel, and Erin agreed that Dave is the only one who's been able to mix it up right away for her. She very much appreciated our bartender looking out for the amount of alcohol she consumed.

Christmas Pint Glasses

New pint glasses!

Thanks to our good friend and regular Susan, we have cheerful new pint glasses just in time for the winter holidays (and the weather that comes with it)!

Picture 1
We put out a call awhile back for holiday artwork for our glasses, and Susan responded with not one, but two awesome designs. It was hard to pick one- and we almost ordered both- but we decided on the tropical snowman.

Dave's supposed to pick up the pints on Thursday, so they'll be here in time for tropical drink night. They're $3 each and a great gift. If you're planning to come by and get one, call ahead to make sure they're here first.

We probably won't get a new design done in time for New Year's Eve, but if you have something in mind send it our way. We're also looking ahead to Valentine's Day.

Double Dream Hands

In the midst of all our holiday cheer, something dropped in our laps that relates to another very important holiday: St. Patrick's Day.

Our friend Scott posted this video on his Facebook page:

It's called Double Dream Hands, and it's fantastic. We were instantly reminded of our own cheese (but not quite this cheesy) St. Patrick's Day dance routines.

You can bet we'll be incorporating Double Dream Hands into our float dance this year.

May your double dream hands stay dreamy!
