The annual Walk MS, a fundraiser for the National MS Society, is coming up on April 28. The Sandbar has a team walking again this year.
Our friend Courtney, a regular patron from the 90s, was diagnosed with MS several years ago. We also have a number of other friends who have MS, and bartender Danny has been a huge fundraising machine for years now through Bike MS.
Courtney's Sandbar walk team has a donation page here. We'd love it if you made a donation, large or small, to our team. Our team's fundraising goal is $3000.

For the second year in a row, the Sandbar sponsored a team in the annual Walk MS, a fundraiser for the National MS Society.
Unfortunately, a number of our friends and regulars suffer from multiple sclerosis, so we're happy to help support research for a cure.
All of our team members who raised at least $25 got a free green Sandbar T-shirt to wear, and everyone who showed up to walk sported their new shirt.
We walked a little over 3 miles on a beautiful day in west Lawrence. Our team has raised a total of $2796- second place among the participating teams!
And, the Sandbar will donate an additional $100 to the total from our Foursquare check-in special. Every check-in at the Sandbar on Foursquare during the month of April was worth a $1 donation to the cause. We had slightly under 100 check-ins, but we're rounding our donation up.
After the walk, our team members moved on the Sandbar for a post-party with cake, snacks and fruity drinks. Join us next year!

Saturday's a big day for the Sandbar crew!
Some of our staff and friends are participating in this year's Walk MS, a fundraiser for the National MS Society. This is the second year we've put together a team for the Walk, and so far I think we've raised more money than last year. But, in my recap of last year's event, I failed to mention our grand fundraising total, so who knows.
We've raised $2,636 so far! You can still donate if you're so inclined.
And this year, we added a new twist for our social media-obsessed friends: for every check-in on foursquare through April 30, the bar will donate a buck to the cause. We're close to $100!
Our walkers will descend on the bar afterward for a post party, which will morph into a pre-party for the event of the season: Jimmy Buffett's return to Kansas City!
We've chartered two buses to carry parrotheads to the show, and our pre-party officially starts at 2 p.m. We'll have food, drinks and parrothead hat-making supplies, and the buses will leave at 4:30 p.m. for the Sprint Center.
We even printed special commemorative T-shirts for the event! They're available in red, orange and green, and in a variety of sizes, for $12 each. The Sandbar logo is on the front, and a great graphic of "Stage Diving with Jimmy Buffett" is on the back.
We'll have plenty of stories after this weekend!

Some of the Sandbar crew is participating in Walk MS for the second year in a row. This year's walk is on Saturday, April 30, and we'd love to have you join us!
Our team is currently in first place for fundraising in the Lawrence Walk with $1,241!

This week is a special fundraising week with lots of prizes:
- $100 or more new funds raised this week gets you in a drawing for prizes
- Update your participant page this week and be put in a prize drawing
- Raise the most money this week and win a great Walk MS prize
The team who raises the most money this week will be announced as Fundraising Week Champions at the Walk, and they'll be the first team to start the Walk.
We have some prizes for our Sandbar team members, too, so get busy raising money!
As a reminder, everyone who raises at least $25 will get a free Sandbar shirt, and if you raise $125 you'll also get this year's official Walk MS shirt.

It's almost time for this year's Walk MS event!
Walk MS is an annual event sponsored by the Mid America Chapter of the National MS Society. The goal is to raise money to support multiple sclerosis research.
When: Saturday, April 30
Time: 9 a.m. registration, 10 a.m. walk begins
Location: Sunflower Elementary, Lawrence
We'd love for you to join our team! Sandbar walkers had a great time last year, and after the walk we had an after party at the Sandbar.
Our team goal this year is $5000. All walkers who raise at least $100 will earn an official Walk MS T-shirt. For extra incentive, everyone who raises at least $25 will get a free Sandbar T-shirt.
There are lots of prize opportunities along the way, both from the MS Society as well as from our team. Last year we gave out several gift cards to team members and people who made donations.
It's easy to raise money. The Walk MS website lets you send e-mails to friends and family, and you can also install a Facebook application to share information with your friends.
Unfortunately, those of us at the Sandbar know many people who are either suffering from MS or have family or friends diagnosed with it. Rockstar bartender Danny has been raising money for the MS Society for years through Bike MS; he's riding again this year and you can support him here.
